Flyers announce Development Camp Roster, Kolosov notably absent

It’s free agent day, but probably more importantly for this Flyers team – it’s almost development camp time! So, in lieu of development camp beginning tomorrow, the Flyers announced the roster that will hit the ice in Voorhees this week.

There will be 39 total players at development camp, as six of seven Flyers draft picks from the weekend – Jett Luchanko, Jack Berglund, Spencer Gill, Heikki Ruohonen, Noah Powell, and Austin Moline – are set to attend. Ilya Pautov, the Russian winger who the Flyers selected in the sixth round, is the only draft pick unable to make it to the Flyers Training Center. For the others, it’ll be the first chance for fans and reporters to really see what these prospects can do, and it’s always a cool experience to watch them scrimmage against one another on the final day of camp.

Another Russian winger who looks like they aren’t going to make it to camp? Well, that’ll be Matvei Michkov, who by Danny Briere’s words, is simply not going to have everything sorted out for this week. Signing an entry-level-contract and figuring out travel logistics in time for development camp was always slightly unrealistic, it seems.

There’s also the notable omissions of goaltenders Alexei Kolosov and Yegor Zavragin. Specifically with Kolosov, there may be real issues with keeping the goaltender in North America this upcoming season. On the heels of an Elliotte Friedman report that there is “uncertainty around talented young goalie Alexei Kolosov”, this is certainly worth keeping an eye on as an area of concern. With Kolosov and Zavragin both absent, 2023 second-rounder Carson Bjarnason is the lone drafted-Flyer in net, as Matteo Drabac (Brantford Bulldogs) and Arthur Smith (Princeton University) received camp invites.

Beyond the recent draftees, there are some majorly important Flyers prospects set to attend camp as well. On the forwards side, Denver Barkey, Alex Bump, Devin Kaplan, and Massimo Rizzo are notable prospects worth tracking this week. There’s also Flyers front office favorite Hunter McDonald and top-defense prospect Oliver Bonk on the backend,, alongside 2023 draft picks Carter Sotheran and Matteo Mann.

The full roster and schedule for development camp, including the 15 undrafted camp invites, can be found here.
