Flyers development, training camp dates released

© David Kirouac-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Flyers released the dates for both their development camp as well as the training camp for the 2024-25 season today.

The development camp runs from July 2 to July 5 while the training camp opens on Sept. 18 with the first day the players will be on the ice being Sept. 19. The development camp will be held at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees, NJ.

As previously reported, the Flyers begin their string of six exhibition games visiting the Washington Capitals on Sept. 22. The development camp will most likely see some of the younger prospects in the pipeline appearing. The 2023 rookie development camp featured Bobby Brink, Tyson Foerster, Oliver Bonk, Emil Andrae and Adam Ginning, among others. In total there were 39 players invited to attend. The development camp is often a chance for the players to meet the Flyers staff while also getting some feedback on what they may need to work on or enhance for the coming season whether it’s in the minors or at the junior level.

Perhaps the biggest question for the development camp is whether Matvei Michkov will be in attendance. Much of it will depend both on the paperwork needed to get him into the United States and whether that can be done prior to the start of camp. If all the paperwork is done and Michkov signs an entry level contract with the Flyers then it’s promising he could be on the ice next week. But a lot of ducks would have to line up in a row quickly and smoothly. It’s probably more conceivable Michkov making some kind of appearance as part of the Flyers making their first round selections Friday night during the NHL Draft from Sphere in Las Vegas.

If the Mad Russian can’t make it to July’s development camp, look for him to be the center of attention when rookie and training camps begins in September.
