Flyers select Austin Moline 205th overall

That’s (probably) a wrap, folks! With their final scheduled selection in the 2024 Draft, the 205th overall pick, the Flyers have selected defenseman Austin Moline.

Moline is a big, mobile defenseman who just finished his third year in the famed Shattuck St. Mary’s program where he continued to polish his game, and saw his offense take a nice step forward (he totaled a respectable eight goals and 35 points in 57 games played).

We’ll again turn to the fine folks at Elite Prospects and hear their thoughts on Moline from their draft guide:

Moline’s range and 6-foot-4 frame is a real asset. He probes with his stick to make up space, reaching into puck carriers’ wheelhouses more than actually guiding them to the outside. An ever-willing activator on the rush, it’s rare not to see him sprint up the ice on the weak side or as a trailer in position for a drop. Workable four-way mobility and stable edges combined with his reach represent his biggest advantages.

We can also see a bit of a trend beginning to emerge here, as we note that Moline is also taking something of the long road with his development. Graduating from prep school this past season, he’ll move on to join the Brooks Bandits of the BCHL this season, and then ultimately also head the college route for the next step in his development. He’s committed to play at Northern Michigan University beginning in the 2025-26 season.

And this was, if nothing else, a nice pick. Moline is a Las Vegas native, and even as we’ve moved well into the seventh round, he and his family were still up in the stands awaiting this pick. It was a sweet moment to catch on the broadcast, and what a way to wrap up.
