Prepare for Monday’s announcement: See the 2012 Winter Classic logo, an ugly Rangers logo, etc.

Sometimes, you can just tell that they want the media to leak things. Like when there are a bunch of reporters sitting in a press box in a ballpark and they flash something up on the gigantic video board inside that ballpark.

That’s what happened at Citizens Bank Park today as Phillies writers were preparing for this evening’s game, when the team flashed up the Winter Classic logo and the two team logos for the game. Image to the left via The 700 Level.

This came minutes after the NHL released a media advisory that there would be a press conference on Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at CBP, where the league would make a “MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT.” Yep, what a secret this whole thing is. Anyway, that presser will be broadcast live on NHL Network, NHL.com, PhiladelphiaFlyers.com, NewYorkRangers.com and Phillies.com. If that’s not enough places for you.

Who knows what info we’ll get. Hopefully jerseys, since at this time last year we already knew what threads the Capitals and Penguins would be wearing for the 2011 game. We already know that the Flyers are going to look better, because that Rangers logo there on Phanavision is absolutely horrendous. Hopefully we get ticket info, too.

But really, guys: that’s a FLYERS LOGO on the scoreboard at CITIZENS BANK PARK. How cool is that?! Yeah, I’m like a little kid over this game … and I’ve been to a Winter Classic before. Couldn’t disagree more with those who say this event is stale.
